New Novels, Future Detectives, and Final Frontiers
It’s only when I find myself updating my website that I’m struck by a familiar guilt – this blog has been severely neglected once again! A quick check tells me my last update was way back in September 2024, so a catch-up is long overdue. The truth is, I’ve been completely immersed in writing, and I have quite a bit to share.
First and foremost, I’m thrilled to announce that the comprehensive rewrite and edit of my first novel, Star Fantasy, is complete. It’s been a remarkable journey, one that started in 2004. To return to that world twenty years later and infuse the story with two decades of writing experience has been incredibly rewarding. With that milestone reached, I’m excited to say that I’ve now officially started work on the sequel.
However, that’s not the only project that’s been keeping me busy. I’ve continued to work on my Star Trek fan fiction and last week completed the draft of a new novel called The Last Deviation. While some familiar faces from the Original Series make an appearance, the story primarily follows a ship and crew I first created for a fan fiction comic. This novel jumps right to the end of their saga, telling their final, full-length adventure.
In the midst of all this, inspiration struck from an old episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation – specifically, the one where Picard takes on the role of the hard-boiled detective, Dixon Hill. It sparked an idea I couldn’t shake: I had to write my own 1940s-style Private Investigator story. Of course, me being me, it needed a twist. My version isn't set on post-war Earth, but on New Vega, a distant colony world where humans and aliens coexist. This led to the creation of detective Vic Dukes, and I’m proud to announce that the first book in a planned new series has just been released.
The New Vega Files, Book 1: The Zortexian Squeeze is out now on Amazon Kindle!
So, that’s where things stand at the moment. My plate is certainly full as I finish off a few short stories and continue to forge ahead with Star Fantasy 2. I’ll make a genuine effort not to leave it quite so long next time!
Until then, happy reading.
